McNutt House Bed & Breakfast

The stately McNutt House was built in 1909 in Colonial revival style by Mrs. S.R. McNutt, the widow of a wealthy Arkadelphia merchant.

In the early 1920s, the house was sold to Dr. H.A. Ross. During the 20 years the Ross family lived here, one of the men’s dormitories at what is now Henderson State University burned and townspeople were asked to house the dozens of displaced students.

Among the two students the family accepted was a young Sid McMath, who would become a World War II hero and later the governor of Arkansas.

During WWII, the Ross family sold the house to I.B. and Marian Fuller. Mr. Fuller was a successful pharmacist and banker in Arkadelphia. He and his family completed significant renovations to the property during the 60 years they resided in house.

In 2003, Mrs. Fuller sold the house to Trey and Kathy Berry, longtime employees of Ouachita Baptist University, who remodeled and repaired the house throughout, including the beautiful hardwood and heart-of-pine floors.

In 2007, the Berrys sold the house to Juanita Thomasson, widow of Jerry Thomasson, a former member of the Arkansas State Legislature and an administrative law judge.
